The City of Treasure Island is accepting applications for the position of City Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional to provide on-going transformational leadership and management with a vibrant, engaged beach community of 6,700 residents. Treasure Island is a barrier island located in Pinellas County with nearly four miles of gulf front beach running its’ entire length. The City of Treasure Island has a Commission/Manager form of government. The outgoing City Manager had a ten-year tenure with the City. The position reports to and serves at the pleasure of a five (5) member Commission, which consists of a Mayor and four (4) Commissioners who are elected by district and serve staggered two (2) year terms. The City has a $22 million budget and 100 full-time employees, provides the following in house services to its residents; Police, Fire, Community Development , Recreation, Public Works, Sanitation, Sewer Collection and Stormwater.
This is a high level executive management position that is responsible for directing and supervising the operations of the City of Treasure Island. Responsibilities include providing leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range plans, advising Mayor and Commission of financial conditions and current and future needs of the City, and monitoring and ensuring compliance with State/Federal regulations. Work involves managing and supervising all departments of the City (Finance, HR, IT, Police, Fire, Recreation, Community Improvement, and Public Works) to achieve goals as identified by our strategic plan, using available resources.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with the capacity to leverage relationships within the Community and those surrounding it, including encouraging citizen input and participation. A desirable core skill set shall include: financial management and budgeting experience, organizational and analytical skills, economic development experience, a thorough knowledge of municipal programs, services and functions, and the ability to interact with top level officials and others with tact and diplomacy. The candidate should possess a collaborative management style and be receptive to direction from the Mayor/Commissioners and to input from citizens. He or she must be a creative problem solver, and comfortable with shifting balance between innovation and continuity, with a focus on quality improvement and increasing efficiencies.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or related field. Master’s degree preferred; ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in local government. City Manager/Assistant City Manager experience preferred. ICMA credentialed manager desirable. Florida experience preferred. Applications accepted thru June 2, 2017. E.O.E
