Carl Cheatham, longtime city manager of Winter Haven, passed away February 19, 2021. FCCMA awarded him honorary membership in 2000 to recognize him for his significant contribution to the field of public administration. He served in Lake Wales over 10 years in various positions before becoming the city manager in 1969. He became the manager in Anniston, AL in 1975 and while serving as manager became the president of the Alabama managers’ association. He moved back to Florida in 1987 as city manager in Winter Haven. One FCCMA member said he was a mentor to the managers in Polk County for many years. Click here to read his obituary.
