By Lynn Tipton, FCCMA Executive Director
Your statewide association has partnered with the ICMA Coaching Program for six webinars per year. As an FCCMA member you may attend each one for FREE, and can use the opportunity to bring in as many of your staff as an audience as you wish! To maximize this benefit, I wanted to share some tips I recently received from Frank Benest and the ICMA webinar team:
- Place each webinar date on your calendar now, and encourage department directors and your HR coordinator to also do so
- Sign up for the automated ICMA notices for the webinars (a handy reminder that you can also forward to others): http://icma.org/coaching
- Remember that you can replay the webinars if you cannot attend the live version.
- Plan ahead with your management team to have a panel discussion before and after the training program; you can include pre-drafted questions to help prompt discussion
- Be sure to route the Career Compass newsletter (which will be posted to the FCCMA website under ‘resources’ each month) to your management team members
- Do the managers in your area meet for a quarterly or monthly meeting? Consider adding a ‘speed coaching’ session to your local event! A Senior Advisor in your area might be available to help with this.
The webinar titles and dates for ICMA in 2016 are (Eastern Standard Time):
* Thriving as a High Performance Organization March 10, 2016 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. EST
* Building Civic Leadership and Community April 13, 2016 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EST

I hope you and your management team will participate and benefit from these additions to your training calendar. Please let us know if you find these sessions helpful; your board of directors will be considering future access to the ICMA webinars and coaching program as we plan the 2017 fiscal year budget.
