FCCMA will hold its next two webinars April 7th and May 5th, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm on “Planning in Florida 101: A Two Webinar Series.”
For the first time in FCCMA’s webinar series, a two-part (April and May) webinar will focus on Florida Planning. There is probably no other subject/service in local government as complicated and legalistic as local government planning. The special terminology and processes in this discipline necessitates knowledgeable sources of reference for City and County Managers throughout the state, including those who, themselves, have backgrounds in planning, either as Department Directors or other key planning staff positions in their careers.
Planning is an ever evolving discipline that is often the focus of expensive litigation and political contention as it pertains to growth verses no growth ideologies, development modifications, and compliance with state mandates and self-imposed local initiatives. Attorney Susan Trevarthen and Growth Management Director Merle Bishop have developed a two-part webinar series that will cover the history of planning in Florida, the key definitions used in Florida planning, the notable processes and procedures required in Florida planning, and the legal aspects of Florida planning, along with real examples to provide webinar attendees with the information to best understand this service in an abbreviated format. This is a must attend session for anyone interested in understanding Florida planning in 2016.
