In the summer of 2016, the City of Palm Coast hired two interns to design a formalized internship program for city departments. This included the implementation and marketing process for recruiting college students to work within our local government. A key component of the recruitment process was our partnership with Flagler Schools. This partnership with the local school system was designed to encourage local students to apply for internship opportunities within their community. With over 300 applicants for the 16 available internship positions, Palm Coast experienced the first successful internship period during the summer of 2017. Palm Coast was excited to welcome talented students from colleges in-and-out of the state of Florida. The interns worked and collaborated on a variety of projects within Palm Coast departments. These paid, college level internships allowed students to take initiative in their own projects, network with professionals, work hands-on in their career field, and make a difference in the Palm Coast community. Palm Coast has benefitted from the talent and innovative ideas that these interns brought to local government.
