Since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) came into effect in 1990, Florida’s cities, counties and other jurisdictions had to ensure that citizens with disabilities were accommodated in order to access public buildings or to move freely about in urban settings. Many are now starting to realize that this law also greatly affects our local governments from a digital perspective, though it was enacted long before the internet became so engrained in our daily lives. The FLGISA understands the severity and urgency to attain or maintain ADA compliance for our Florida jurisdictions, and would like to invite anyone from Florida local government to attend our Pre-Conference Session, “PDF Remediation for ADA Compliance.” This two-hour workshop will cover the tools, techniques, and tips to convert or craft fully compliant PDF documents, which have unfortunately been the cause for much of the litigation happening in Florida as of late. You will learn from industry-leading ADA experts about the current legal landscape, guidance on creating an ADA policy, and how best to remediate your digital content using real-life example documents from some of Florida’s Local Government entities. This workshop aims to help you be ready to make immediate positive changes to your public-facing PDF content upon your return!
