The City of Clermont and GAI’s Community Solutions Group in Orlando have been recognized by the Florida Redevelopment Association (FRA) for outstanding redevelopment achievements for the visionary master plan developed for the city’s downtown-waterfront district.
The FRA presents awards annually to projects that exhibit the best practices in Florida development during the past year. The award will be presented at FRA’s Annual Conference in October.
“We are honored by this award and believe it underscores the exciting future ahead for Clermont’s downtown and waterfront area,” Clermont City Manager Darren Gray said.
It is the second award recognizing the master plan of Clermont, the Choice of Champions®, and the largest city in Lake County.
Peter Sechler, senior director at GAI’s Community Solutions Group, said, “We are very happy that Clermont is recognized for their efforts. Clermont is strategically positioning the downtown and waterfront as meaningful, cultural and economic assets for the entire Central Florida region.”
Clermont’s master plan is a 10-year blueprint for the city’s historic downtown and waterfront bordering Lake Minneola. The plan calls for a series of projects that include a stormwater-urban park development called Victory Pointe, new gateway signage and a re-imagining of Waterfront Park that will enhance the popular venue’s amenities while adding event space that will draw more people into the downtown area.
The FRA, based in Tallahassee, reviews more than 60 entries, all of which “embody the spirit of successful community redevelopment and revitalization,” said FRA Executive Director Carol Westmoreland.
The FRA is a not-for-profit organization that provides a statewide clearinghouse for redevelopment information.
