It was a pleasure to have had the privilege to be the face of the FCCMA Student Council Sub-Committee, the ICMA FIU Student Chapter, and the City of Miami at the FIU career fair held on September 28th alongside Mrs. Sarah Hannah-Spurlock and City of Miami career services representatives.
The event was a huge success. Numerous employers were present—the climate was vibrant and full of opportunity. Most impressive was the amount and the flow of both students and alumni, all with great qualifications and eager to work. Several stopped by our table both wanting to learn about our organization and expressing interest in careers in local government. Some even had colleagues in common with Sarah and I!
We talked with attendees about the FCCMA and about the local government profession. Overall, they seemed satisfied with the information and looked forward to connecting with the FCCMA through the ICMA FIU Student Chapter. Also, City of Miami career services personnel collected resumes and discussed existing job vacancies. Based on those exchanges, I got the impression that some might get interview opportunities and even land a job!
