Solid Waste Management: Current Trends and Practices for Service Delivery
ICMA Practice Areas: 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 13

There are a few local government services that could be delayed a few months without catastrophic results; solid waste management is not one of them. Solid waste management is one of the most basic, and under-recognized services, that local governments provide to citizens. How best to provide this important service today varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and technology and contract provisions/mandates often drive cost and service levels. For this webinar, attendees will be presented with best practices and trends that Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority sees as important for delivery of solid waste services today. The presenters will also focus on service delivery challenges and future considerations for local government decision makers.

Representatives from the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County

"Crisis Management: The Boca Raton Experience"
Thursday, November 1, 2018 · 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
ICMA Practice Areas: 2, 4, 6, 9 and 14

The saying goes: "It's not if, but when, your city or county will be faced with a serious crisis." Social media has changed the manner which local governments respond to a crisis and the need for a plan and guiding policies has never been more important. Effectively managing information is a priority if a local government is going to successfully navigate the maze of challenges that come with a crisis. In this FCCMA webinar, the city of Boca Raton will share their own experiences and the lessons they've learned when dealing with crisis. They will also offer a template for others to consider in order to prepare their agencies to respond to crisis. Whether you are the manager, deputy manager, communication director or chief information officer, or other key staff member who will be directly involved in crisis management, this is a must attend webinar for you.

PRESENTERS:

  • George Brown, Boca Raton's Deputy City Manager
  • Chrissy Gibson, Boca Raton's Communication and Marketing Manager
