The City Manager’s Office is seeking a Director to perform work evaluating internal controls for the City of Gainesville and ensuring appropriate levels of oversight across all departments. This position reviews business practices and process controls, identifying areas of risk and opportunities for strategic improvement. As opportunities are identified this position collaborates with leadership and Organizational Development to introduce enhanced controls, create and deliver appropriate training and ensure buy-in. The Internal Control Manager embraces the ideas of a New American City and focuses on protecting the image and reputation of the City of Gainesville.
The ideal candidate must have a Master degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Business or Public Administration, or relevant field; and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience, or a Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Business or Public Administration, or relevant field; and seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience, OR
A combination of training, education and experience that meets the requirements of the position.

This position reviews business practices and process controls, identifying areas of risk and opportunities for strategic improvement. As opportunities are identified this position collaborates with leadership and Organizational Development to introduce enhanced controls, create and deliver appropriate training and ensure buy-in. This position embraces the ideas of a New American City and focuses on protecting the image and reputation of the City of Gainesville.
The single position allocated to this class reports to the City Manager or his/her designee; and works independently and objectively to enhance internal control efforts across the City. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its focus on collaboration, evaluation and proactive prevention rather than after-the-fact auditing and situation management.
- A valid U.S. Driver License required upon appointment. A valid Florida Driver License is required within thirty (30) days of start date.
- Salary for this position will be determined based on qualifications and the desired attributes sought by the city.
