Salary: $39.42 – $60.90 Hourly / $81,985.00 – $126,669.00 Annually
The City Manager’s Office is seeking a Director to perform managerial and administrative work that focuses on improving existing assets, creating exciting new venues and offering new services to the citizens of Gainesville. These projects will increase Gainesville’s quality of life and support the City’s commitment to being a New American City.
The WSPP (Wild Spaces Public Places) Director works closely with the Assistant City Manager and the Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. The WSSP Director also collaborates with multiple City departments as outlined in the Implementation Plan for the 2016 WSPP projects.
The ideal candidate must have a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university; and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public administration or management, including two (2) years of supervisory experience as a divisional manager or higher; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is managerial and administrative work shepherding the projects made possible by the Wild Spaces Public Places (WSPP) half-cent sales tax passed November 8, 2016. The 99 identified and prioritized projects will improve existing assets, create exciting new venues and offer new services to the citizens of Gainesville. These projects will increase Gainesville’s quality of life and support the City’s commitment to being a New American City.
The single position allocated to this classification reports directly to a designated supervisor and works under limited supervision. The WSPP Director works closely with the Assistant City Manager and the Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. The WSSP Director also collaborates with multiple City departments as outlined in the Implementation Plan for the 2016 WSPP projects. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its emphasis on project management of parks, recreation and cultural affairs efforts related to the Wild Spaces Public Places half-cent sales tax.
- Experience in budget development along with capital projects development and oversight is required.
- A Master degree in a related field from an accredited college or university may substitute for one (1) year of non-supervisory experience.
- Preference given to candidates with experience in program and project management; working with citizen advocates and community organizations, partnership development, grants and nonprofits.
- A valid U.S. Driver License required upon appointment. A valid Florida Driver License is required within thirty (30) days of start date.
- Salary for this position will be determined based on qualifications and the desired attributes sought by the city.
