MANATEE COUNTY, FLORIDA SEEKS A COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR
(Salary Range is – $155,708 – $249,142 DOQ/E; + Excellent Benefits!)
Located just south of and bordering Tampa Bay and stretching south along Florida’s spectacular Gulf Coast, the shores of Manatee County are some of the most beautiful in all of Florida. However, this county of 350,000, living within an area of 743 square miles has so much more to offer its citizens, businesses, and visitors! Manatee County, one of the fastest growing regions in the country, is comprised of six municipalities, including Bradenton, the County Seat. Residents have access to world-class health care, recreation, and exceptional educational opportunities at all levels. Because of outstanding infrastructure and assets such as the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, a network of federal and state highways, including I-75, and Port Manatee – one of Florida’s largest and fastest growing deep-water seaports, the County is blessed with a strong business base and is flourishing with new development and redevelopment opportunities.
Manatee County is governed by a seven-member Board of County Commissioners (BOCC). The BOCC appoints the County Administrator, who is the administrative head of county government and is responsible for carrying out the policies and directives of the Board, including preparation and oversight of the annual operating and capital improvement budgets. The County has 1,700 employees and 12 departments that offer a wide array of public services from road maintenance and water utilities to social services, public safety, and economic development, all funded by a $1.2 billion budget.
The ideal candidate will possess outstanding “people skills” and the ability to communicate effectively to establish strong relationships with the BOCC, Manatee County’s department directors and constitutional officers, residents, and a variety of other civic and business leaders. The BOCC is seeking a leader with vision, a problem solver with experience in dealing effectively with a variety of growth management challenges, including redevelopment. Experience in budgeting and finance and a strong business acumen will also be an advantage. Knowledge and experience with Florida laws and local government operations would be helpful but is not required.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in public or business administration, and at least 3-7 years of recent senior level management experience in local or regional government, or in some combination of experience and education in a similar capacity, is required. The selected candidate will be required to live in Manatee County.
